Savouring a slower pace
Small pleasures have become a very significant part of my daily life.
In this world of making-our-dreams-come-true-in-Spain, there’s a lot of waiting. There’s a lot of paperwork, and then a lot more waiting. Some days, in fact, we’ve felt like we’ve been waiting for the entire country to finish siesta, and then café, and then there are long weekends (which they call puentes, bridges), and then extra-long weekends (which they call aqueducts), and then oops, sorry we’re closed every Wednesday afternoon. You get my drift. It’s a different world.
That being said, I can’t help but laugh and think that maybe the Spaniards know more about living than us over on the other side. There’s a lot to savour about really, really taking time for friends, family and café.
Through necessity, I have become much more patient. And I bake cakes. This week, it was a yogurt cake made with extra virgin olive oil…since we are in the land of olive oil.
Perfectly moist, nothing fancy- just pure and honest flavors. A healthy dollop of mermelada de albaricoque on the side, perfecto.

Ciao, Devaki @ weavethousandflavors
Thank you Devaki. You’re so lovely, and absolutely made my morning!
really beautiful photos. i do love the concept of the puentes, in rome at work everyone would ask- “are you ‘making’ the ponte this weekend?” i love it. enjoy this- i do miss it very much.
Thank you – and that’s funny! I guess the whole ‘puente-ponte’ concept seems to be southern European. When I lived in Zürich, I don’t think they talk this often about extended ‘bridges’ over their weekends
